FOR BUILDERS WITH BIG PLANS

A small team’s
unfair advantage.

Your ideas deserve more than another chat window. Turn AI coding agents into a coordinated crew — with you at the helm.

Local-first. Built around Claude Code & Codex. In active development.

01 / THE BIG IDEA

More agents.
Less managing.

Running several agents is easy.
Getting them to work as a team is the hard part.

mate gives your project a dedicated lead. It keeps context, writes focused briefs, delegates work, and reviews what comes back. Your crew works in separate Git worktrees, so parallel tasks have their own space.

You stay close to the work — without being the messenger between every terminal.

02 / FROM IDEA TO HANDOFF

You steer.
Your crew moves.

A familiar terminal workflow.
A much bigger circle of hands.

03 / BUILT FOR THE WAY YOU BUILD

Context that stays.

Project memory and written briefs keep the important decisions close, even as individual crew sessions come and go.

Room to work in parallel.

Each crew gets its own Git worktree and branch. Build a feature while another agent researches the next decision.

Visibility, down to the task.

See status, questions, tool activity, and recorded token usage in the console and local dashboard.

A THOUGHTFUL LEAD. A FLEXIBLE CREW.

Claude at the helm.
Your tools on deck.

By default, Claude Code coordinates the project and Codex executes the tasks. You can also use Claude Code as crew, or choose pi and Grok for execution.

The bet behind mate: a persistent lead and focused workers can make AI-assisted development easier to direct, inspect, and carry forward.

START WITH THE SOURCE

You’ll need Go 1.25+, Git, Herdr 0.8.2, and an authenticated coding harness.

git clone https://github.com/nguyenngocanh94/mate.git
cd mate
make build
./bin/mate --version

Herdr provides the terminal runtime. Install and authenticate your chosen harness separately. Beads and Beads Viewer are needed for task tracking.

A FEW GOOD QUESTIONS

Before you
come aboard.

Is mate a new coding model?

mate coordinates existing coding harnesses. It gives them project context, separate workspaces, and a review workflow. You keep using tools such as Claude Code and Codex.

Where does my work live?

Your repositories, worktrees, and mate’s project state live in your local workspace. The coding harnesses still connect to their own model providers under your account and settings.

Can agents merge changes automatically?

You can supervise the work or enable automatic coordination. Merge permission is a separate project setting; Mate can merge only when you explicitly enable it. Crew handoff alone does not mark a task finished.

Who is it for?

Founders and small software teams already working with coding agents, who want to coordinate parallel tasks and keep a clear view of what happened and what needs a decision.
